Alvina Lau
Pianist / Producer
Alvina Lau is an 18 year old pianist based in Christchurch, a recent graduate from Middleton Grange School who received the ‘Performance Kent Award’ and ‘Music Cup’ in her final year (2017). Part of these achievements are due to involvement in a variety of bands of different genres; Jazz Band, Orchestra, Chamber Group. She has also participated in Southern Jam and JazzQuest and had the opportunity to perform for Breast Cancer Awareness Day in 2016 with her chamber group.
Alvina started playing the piano when she was just five years old, developing classical music skills. Having achieved her Grade 8 ABRSM qualification in 2016, she is currently working on her ARSM diploma and is currently studying at Ara Music Arts with a new interest in the genre of jazz, hoping to further develop her skills in jazz piano.
Alvina hopes to eventually write original music and hone her skills in music production. She is inspired by a lot of hip-hop and indie-pop music. Artists such as Rex Orange County, King Krule, Childish Gambino, Mura Masa and Tom Odell and The 1975 are only just a few of her many influences.
