Callum is in his final year of a Bachelor of Music Arts degree at Ara, where he has been developing and refining his abilities as a musician and composer. During his time at Ara, he has gained experience in performing jazz and other improvised music live with other musicians. He has also written and performed his own material as part of his studies.

Callum has spent the last few years being involved in the jazz scene within Christchurch, regularly playing throughout the city at both private events and venues such as Fat Eddie’s and Pomeroy’s. He is an active member of the Christchurch band Ocelot, a quintet that specialises in modern jazz-influenced music with strong improvisation.

In his own compositions, Callum blends Jazz with influences from other modern artists – incorporating elements of hip-hop, pop, classical and fusion. His emphasis is on blending compelling arrangements with organic improvisation, delivering powerful emotional moments while still allowing the improvisatory talent of his bandmates in Ocelot to shine through.
