Singer/Guitarist

Harry Finlayson-Hood is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, though primarily a singer and guitarist. Having grown up in a musical family, he has played guitar and bass for 9 years, drums for 8 years, keys on and off for 16 years and has sung for 7 years.

He has a deep baritone voice and a guitar style that is grounded in blues-based rock, and his background in music includes playing in high school bands and more recently playing guitar and singing backing in pubs with a covers band.

Vocally he is influenced mainly by Jim Morrison of The Doors, Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Damon Albarn of Blur, and as a guitarist his influences include David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Angus Young of AC/DC and Graham Coxon of Blur. His songwriting is mainly influenced and inspired by the songs of Steely Dan and Blur, and often contains slightly unusual harmonic twists, and satirical and sometimes ironic lyrics.

He is currently playing guitar for Al Park, the “godfather of the Lyttelton music scene” and in doing so is hoping to hone his skills as a guitarist and learn some tricks of the trade while contributing his playing to Al’s band.

He is also playing guitar and singing with Electric Temples, a group formed by fellow Ara music student David Rae, which is currently seeking more members, and he hopes to contribute songs and ideas to the group as it develops
