Jacob Si’ave

Christchurch based jazz guitarist

My name is Jacob Si’ave and I’ve been playing guitar since late primary school years but my passion for music and guitar has ignited only over the last few. I am currently studying jazz at Ara Institute of Canterbury (Jazz School). I’ve just completed my first year here and what I’ve learned from the tutors and fellow students has been incredible. I am reasonably new to the style of jazz but since the beginning of 2016 it has captivated me. I enjoy the challenge look forward to learning new things in the genre everyday.In the final 2 years of my studies I wish to hone my skills even further and adopt the jazz as the main style in my repertoire.

A side hobby of mine is Hip – Hop, or more specifically, producing Hip – Hop beats. The art of sampling is something that I’ve become fond of over the last year and I enjoy it thoroughly. When I am away from my guitar Hip – Hop is the music I enjoy creating. I hope to further my skills in this area and become a skilled producer. Watch out for beats on my soundcloud as I have many in the making that could pop up any time.

Some artists that have inspired me are the likes of; Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Bireli Lagrene, Kenny Burrell, John Scofield, Guthrie Govan, Kamasi Washington, Snarky Puppy, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole and many more. With the internet being so prevalent today I believe it is so easy to be inspired and find great new artists.  Being so new to jazz I find new artists everyday that encourage me to further my craft, and I think that’s really great.
