Lou is a vocalist, pianist and harp player who is equally happy singing smooth and sassy lounge bar jazz as kicking out the jigs and reels on harp with her folk band for an Irish dance. Her passions are for rhythms that make you want to move, sweet jazz lines and tight harmonies in any genre. She sings and plays harp with The Rice Paddies, Christchurch’s most fun-loving Celtic music and dance band, and is currently enrolled at Ara Music Arts in Christchurch, studying jazz. More than anything, Lou loves to see music bring people together and have a great time.
Lou Warren
Vocalist, Pianist, Harpist - from cool celtic folk to hip hot jazz
Originally from the UK, Lou trained to a high level in classical piano until age 16, then had a misspent late teenage-hood playing piano in dingy bars and bistros in Manchester and Southampton, England. While other studies took her away from music for some years, Lou continued to sing and play in bands and developed a taste for acoustic and folk music that led her to take up playing harp. After relocating to NZ in 2007 Lou joined The Rice Paddies, a Christchurch-based Celtic music and ceilidh (dance) band. The Paddies continue to play gigs regularly in and around Christchurch and Lou contributes harp and vocals, often singing tight harmonies with the rest of the band.
In 2017 Lou took the opportunity to study music full time and is currently enrolled at Ara Music Arts in Christchurch, studying jazz vocals and piano. With her keen interest in a broad range of musical styles, Lou is open to how the future will unfold musically. Her passions are for rhythms that make you want to move, sweet jazz lines and tight harmonies in any genre. More than anything, she loves to see music bring people together and have a great time.
