Maria Flores is a Contemporary/Jazz vocalist, recently returned from a residency in Hong Kong. She now resides in Christchurch providing live performances in various venues, weddings and corporate events. Maria also provides a versatile form of acts according to client and venue needs, from; solo, duo, trio, jazz quartet to full band, Maria is always willing and prepared to provide the best musical entertainment for any occasion.

In the early stages of her career, Maria’s love for music and performance began when she trained for 2 years in Theatre with the HKYAF (Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation) under musical director Scott Gibson’s guidance. She performed as part of an ensemble for “Sweeney Todd 2009”, “RENT 2010” and eventually got cast for a devised theatre piece “Story of a girl 2011″.
The earliest highlights of her career involved a performance at Hong Kong’s Grappas Cellar with a 12 piece band, she did a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”. During this time, she also had the honour to appear on multiple media platforms, her latest appearance was on “Sassy Hong Kong, That Girl” as an influencer of November 2016.
She has had the opportunity over the years to travel and perform in Macau, Hong Kong, Philippines, and New Zealand. Her early NZ ventures involved touring the South Islands’ as ‘Trick of the Light Pink Floyd 2018 Tribute Band”, she performed as a backup vocalist for Dave Stone and Steve Hill. Maria has also had the special opportunity to work alongside well-renowned artist Mark Vanilau, Sam Owen, Hamish Oliver and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for a collaborative piece called “Simplicity”. This was recently showcased together with various artists Sparks at the Park 2020, this collaboration led to her involvement this year 2021 with Tribalincs as a back up vocalist alongside Roslen Ulaula recording their album that has been 21 years in the making.
Maria is currently enrolled in ARA Institute of Canterbury for a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Arts and has taken up a major as a Jazz vocalist, she has now shifted to ARA’s Contemporary program. She is seen around Christchurch performing for various venues, private and corporate events. Maria currently performs a wide range of Jazz and Pop classics and modern arrangements as a duo act with locally known musicians such as James Caughley, and is currently performing regularly with locally known band House of Groove.
