Michael Bell

Music and theatre producer, composer/arranger and instrumentalist

Michael is a musician and businessman from Christchurch opened Orange Recording Studios in 2006. As a producer he is regularly working with singers, songwriters, and bands, and has been the critical ears and director behind dozens of albums and thousands of tracks. As a composer and arranger he has written for every professional orchestra in the country, many big bands, choirs, chamber groups and all sorts of small bands. He currently employs 15 full time staff as well as various part time contractors.

Michael is a music and theatre producer and businessperson from Christchurch.
After finishing his music degree (double major of bass and composition/arranging) at Ara Music Arts, he began Orange Recording Studios in 2006 and New Zealand Playhouse in 2009.
As a producer he is regularly working with singers, songwriters, and bands, and has been the critical ears and director behind dozens of albums and thousands of tracks.
He is keen to be a part of people making new music and encourages this through the Live @ Orange recording series in which artists playing original music (local, national and international artists) record approximately once per week in the studio to a live audience.
As a composer and arranger he has written for every professional orchestra in the country, many big bands, choirs, chamber groups and all sorts of small bands.
As a theatre producer, he produces plays for children and teenagers that tour New Zealand and Australia, performing to 750 schools per year.
He currently employs 15 full time staff as well as various part time contractors. The majority of the staff hold tertiary qualifications in either music or theatre.
