Selena Davern is in her final year at Ara Music Arts studying a
Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Vocals. Selena has been
involved in music since a young age, first learning to play the
violin and then cello before taking vocal lessons from 15yrs.
For Selena’s final year she has decided to delve into many
different areas including performance, big band arranging, event
management, transcription and even write a guidebook for beginner-intermediate jazz scat vocalists.

Selena’s musical influences at the moment include Tierney Sutton,
Sasha Masakowski, Sara Gazarek, Esperanza Spalding and Harry
Connick Jr.

For the past 2 years Selena has been a vocal tutor at Studio42,
taking Musical Theatre classes for 5-10 year olds and for the past
year she has begun gigging around Christchurch singing jazz and
contemporary songs at bars and cafes around town and for
conferences.

After graduating Selena wishes to continue gigging around
Christchurch whilst looking into other areas of interest which
include Music Therapy and teaching. Another area of interest is to
sing on cruise ships.
