The Mixers
Music for Occasions
The Mixers are a Christchurch-based trio. Their repertoire covers the spectrum of jazz and retro-pop styles and includes something for everyone, whether or not they are familiar with jazz.
The Mixers provide music for occasions. Wedding guests waiting while the bridal party has photos taken, patrons at an art auction exploring the works on offer, conference delegates mingling at a welcome function, attendees at a garden party, diners enjoying an intimate private function at a restaurant — these are a few examples of The Mixers’ audiences.
The core trio consists of Clare Churcher (piano), Jim Coleshaw (sax) and Neville Churcher (bass) and can be augmented with other musicians if desired. The Mixers have been playing together since 2011.
Clare Churcher was trained in both classical and stride piano styles, a rare combination that has enabled her to cover a wide range of genres with ease. Her qualifications include an ATCL and she is currently studying jazz performance at Ara (formerly known as the CPIT Jazz School).
Jim Coleshaw’s musical education took place in the UK. He plays both tenor and soprano sax, giving a full palette of tonalities to suit any tune. Widely-travelled and experienced in live performing, Jim brings his unique perspective to the Mixers’ blend.
Neville Churcher is currently a student in the Ara Music Arts programme (formerly known as the CPIT Jazz School). Whether on electric or acoustic upright bass or bass guitar, he looks after The Mixers’ bottom end.
